    Presentation Description:

This presentation will include general information regarding the Stages of Grief  with the advantages and disadvantages of impacting the work place. We will cover the best and worst things to say while interacting with someone that recently experienced a loss. Discussion will also include myths and realities of grief. Remember, that everyone experiences loss differently; some are emotional, some are silent, and others appear as if they are checked out. Add to this the impact of being a caregiver, nurturer, front line provider in the home and at work and no wonder why our heads and hearts are confused and unable to quickly heal.

Angela Kalsbeek, Oshkosh Counseling Center Therapist

Angela graduated from Marian College with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services. She worked for The Salvation Army of Sheboygan, WI for 5 years as the Emergency Shelter Manager and Case Manager. In this role, she supervised 8 part time and 3 full time staff and 2 interns every semester. Balancing the roles of supervisor, manager, and case manager were a welcomed challenge. In addition, Angela is a veteran of the Army National Guard and served 6 years in a Medivac Unit. Angela was the Director of the Stayer Center Boys & Girls Club for 4 years where she supervised 15 part time staff, and 2 full time staff, and 2 interns every semester. She handled the human resource responsibilities which included interviewing, training, and supervising staff and interns. In addition she would fill in when short staffed by working directly with the youth. Angela received her Masters In Social Work from UW Oshkosh with an emphasis on Child Welfare and is licensed as an Advance Practice Social Worker. For 2 years she worked at Washington County Human Services as a Foster Care Social Worker providing direct services to the youth and Foster Parents. Her passion for working with families and youth continued for 5 years with Center for Veterans Issues where she worked with veterans and families that were homeless/at risk of becoming homeless. Angela joined the Oshkosh Counseling Center’s team in June 2019 as a therapist. She is currently working on obtaining hours for her Clinical Social Worker License. Her vision includes that of whole body wellness. She works with a variety of age groups, singles, couples, parents, special needs, and children ages 5 and up.
