    Presentation Description:

    Renee Kuhs, Senior Compliance Attorney with M3 Insurance will present on the Family and Medical Leave Act.  The presentation will cover an overview of both federal and state FML which includes the definition of a covered employer, eligible employee, protections under FMLA, qualifying reasons and the covered service member addition, serious health conditions and confirmation of them, paid vs. unpaid time, employer obligations, including the notice of obligations and designation of FMLA, employee obligations, and finally the top 10 mistakes employers make in the administration of the FMLA.  The presentation will include discussion and Renee will be available for questions.


    Renee Kuhs, Senior Compliance Attorney

    Renee Kuhs is a Senior Compliance Attorney at M3 Insurance.  She is responsible for assisting employers in proactively managing risk associated with their employee benefit plans.  Renee advises employers on compliance obligations such as HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, Section 125, wellness plan compliance, and the Affordable Care Act.  She frequently hosts workshops to discuss compliance strategies and authors articles to explain new legislative developments.  Renee also works closely with Account Executives and Account Managers to support our clients.


    Renee earned her law degree at Valparaiso University – School of Law, graduating in the top 25% of her class. She began her legal career in a compliance role at Compcare/Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Wisconsin.

    During that time, Renee was instrumental in implementing the changes necessary to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).  In 1999, Renee joined Frank F. Haack & Associates and simultaneously supported Frank Haack and its sister company, Zywave.  In her role, she established HIPAA-compliant policies required of business associates, as well as, educated self-funded employers on their obligation to safeguard Protected Health Information.  More recently, Renee has served as a Compliance Attorney at HNI, and worked for a consulting firm assisting employers with understanding the impact the Affordable Care Act will have on their organizations.  Renee joined the M3 team in July, 2016 and brings with her over twenty years of experience in helping employers comply with the complex legal requirements surrounding health insurance plans.  She frequently speaks on topics such as FMLA, COBRA, Leave Administration, and the Affordable Care Act.  She has presented at numerous SHRM Conferences and to members of the MRA – The Management Association.


    Renee is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin and is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, Health Law Section.

    Renee volunteers her time supporting academic and athletic activities at Waukesha South High School.
