    Presentation Description:

The Oshkosh Area SHRM Chapter is excited to offer a workshop on the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).  LeRoy Frahm, the Ombudsman Director from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve will present an in depth and thorough exploration of USERRA.  Balancing the realities of business while supporting a deployment or military service of an employee can be challenging, but knowing your obligations under USERRA will make your job easier.  Service Members are a protected class under USERRA and have exemptions from “at will” employment.  If you are in Human Resources as a Director, Specialist, or Generalist, or do payroll, pension, insurance, edit your employee handbook, or train supervisors, you will not want to miss this workshop.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Understand USERRA, it’s history, and origin
    2. Explore USERRA’s unique definitions and some little known surprises
    3. Learn to navigate the statute and the DOL regulations
    4. Never confuse eligibility and entitlement
    5. Understand your USERRA rights and responsibilities
    6. Get all your questions answered

LeRoy Frahm is a volunteer with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, trained as an Ombudsman, and received the National Ombudsman of the Year Award in 2009.  As the Wisconsin Ombudsman Director, he serves as the USERRA subject matter expert and is responsible for all training and managing a team of ombudsmen.  He is also responsible for answering all USERRA inquires from service members, employers, and attorneys.

LeRoy provides faculty research and laboratory support in the physical sciences at Lawrence University since 1975.
